Floræ Folium by Sam Baron
via Fuorisalone
A new series of rugs by French designer Sam Baron takes centre stage at Tai Ping's Milan showroom: the Floræ Folium Series, a sophisticated collection focused on floral motifs, Baron's favourite figurative theme. It originated from a research direction developed by Sam Baron with Tai Ping, culminating in 2022 in the Floræ Folium project, in which three experimental rugs, made with over a hundred colours, explored the optical effect of anamorphosis. Today, the Floræ Folium concept has evolved into the Floræ Folium Series rugs, available in different formats – square, rectangular and circular – and characterised by delicate Latin names associated with a colour. The textile surfaces feature reworked shapes of leaves, petals and pistils, arranged in central and diagonal decorative patterns, borders or solid fields. The rugs, made using the classic technique of tufting, feature the innovative use of stitching on certain parts of the design. The series reflects and amplifies the designer's artistic ideas thanks to the careful choice of colours, the calibration of shades and the refinement of gradients. For the presentation, the showroom is transformed into an artist's studio, where sketches and preparatory drawings reveal the designer's creative process, while the carpets displayed on the walls like works of art allow visitors to experience Tai Ping's textile expertise first-hand.
