Act of a line
via Alcova
Following a year of focused research, Marijke De Cock presents new works that build upon previous pieces while venturing into new territory. The wandering lines at the core of her practice now move more freely than before, stretching across walls, being suspended in space and even reaching towards the ceiling. They retain the spontaneous nature of a doodle while being crafted with precision. They act as jewellery and transform domestic spaces into enchanting environments. Foremost the beads have evolved. Sometimes enlarged through collaboration with a glassblower, they now question their own nature. While still forming strings that lift, support or reshape the line into sculptural forms, they now also function as legs that support sculptural tables and racks. Their transparency reveals the underlying structure. While shifting light doubles shapes, alters colour, and lends the work a living presence — a reminder that no moment is ever the same.
